This year we have invited over 5,000 schools to take part in our annual
Miles for Smiles work. The concept is simple: we
encourage school pupils to walk a mile and bring back a smile and at the
same time raise vital funds for their school. We let the schools keep 25% of
the profit raised.
The main reason why we are asking you to help is that pets are wonderful for children who need a bit of extra love in their lives. Research has shown that children in families that have pets have fewer days off sick from school, and it's well known that stroking a pet reduces our blood pressure.
What's more psychologists often use dogs to help the most abused and damaged children confide. But sadly, many of Britain's most devoted pets are not insured and an unexpected illness can cause terrible devastation to families on low income. When this happens, Tailwaggers Club Trust is often the only charity able to help.
